Mission Statement -

The mission of the Facilities Planning & Construction Department is to provide the University of South Florida St. Petersburg with efficient, customer-oriented, professional planning services, and support of the short- and long-range development of the campus physical and spatial environment.

Responsibilities -

1. General

The office of Facilities Planning encompasses activities traditionally administered by urban planners, architects, landscape architects, engineers, interior designers, and other environmental design disciplines. A facilities planning department is established to analyze and manage the tangible fixed assets to best support the organization’s overall objectives. For a university campus, Facilities Planning determines how buildings, grounds, utilities and equipment support the basic missions of teaching, research and public service.


2. Basic Duties

  • Advising the decision-makers on how to keep all parts of the physical planning process moving forward in a positive manner.
  • Planning all physical changes to campus.
  • Consulting on technical requirements for planning, acquisition of advanced technologies and defining user needs, and presenting this information in the form of a Facilities Planning program.
  • Coordinating construction and space use with User functional requirements.
  • Supervision of architects and contractors.
  • Accountability in meeting functional needs, timely delivery of facilities and matching expenditures with budget.
