Edit Breadcrumbs: Directory Names and Page Titles

“Breadcrumbs” is the name given to the tiny navigation bar at the top of every page on the campus website and just under the USFSP Global Header and to the right of the department tab. The breadcrumb function is a javscript that automatically reads the directory name and page title.

Example: directory name = Physics; page title = Faculty Directory

The breadcrumb will be: Home | Physics | Faculty Directory

Home is always the index.htm of the parent directory.

The breadcrumbs act as an interactive table of contents to show the users where they are on the site and how to get back to where they came from. The current page is always plain text but everything to the left (we call these “levels of navigation”) are links. You can only edit the breadcrumbs that refer to your website and the page you are editing.

Tips on breadcrumbs:

  1. Keep them short (1-3 words if possible)
  2. Always be user friendly (title your page to reflect what your page is about).

To edit/change a page title:

  1. Open Contribute
  2. Go to "Format" in the menu bar
  3. Select "Page Properties"
  4. The "Page Properties" dialog window opens
  5. Use the "Title:" field to edit your page title.

To edit/change a directory name:

Contributors can make directories, but they cannot change the name of a directory. To edit/change a directory:

  1. Go to www.usfsp.org/helpdesk and fill out an issue request.
  2. Please indicate your web site address, what the directory name is and what you would like it to become.
