Webmaster's responsibilities
The webmaster assumes campus-wide responsibility
and leadership for the USF St. Petersburg web
site: planning and implementing the overall site architecture, functionality
and user interface. The position provides a vision for the communication of information about the university. The position also assumes responsibility
for the management of the web site: planning, implementing
and administering the content management system. This system consists of web content owners;
author and subject matter experts; contributors; web designers; web
developers; and software components.
The Webmaster provides these campus-wide services to the university campus:
- Provides initial and continuous in-service training of division
and department content contributors in the creation, posting and
maintenance of their web pages using the content management client software: Adobe Contribute.
- Plans, implements and maintains functionalities throughout the
USF St. Petersburg web site including: site-wide page templates; internal
and external links; site CSS; web services databases; navigation structures;
search tools; site map; contact directory; web forms, etc.
- Builds, owns and maintains new web sites as needed when site
ownership or contributor support is ambiguous.
- Administers the content management system. Plans, manages and
reviews system rights, user permissions and responsibilities.
- Manages the development and implementation of Web content policy, procedures and standards.
- Provides support for divisions
and colleges in the creation, posting and maintenance of the content
of their web pages by reviewing the technical product of contributor
work. Troubleshoots system issues at the administrator, user and
server levels. Reviews these issues to determine system improvements.
- Represents the institution on university system web site management issues.
- Consults with Information Technology to ensure appropriate system performance
and security on the Microsoft Internet Information server (IIS).
Reviews and recommends policies, procedures, and standards for
the IIS web server environment. Responsible for web server architecture.
Administers server user rights and permissions.
- Evaluates the web site on an ongoing basis, is responsible for
compliance with the state and federal accessibility requirements
as well as compliance with university regulations.
- Provides web site analytics and statistical reports and evaluates them to determine user
experience and satisfaction.
- Makes recommendations to and is a member of the Technology Support Strategic Planning Subcommittee, divisional regional vice chancellors, college deans
and department directors for system-wide changes and improvements
to official USFSP websites.
- Coordinates Web site management and oversight to support Web site development. Assists offices in understanding audiences and web site usage. Provides access to University Relations expert consultative services.
- Consults with the Assistant Regional Vice Chancellor of University
Relations to insure the cohesive marketing of the web site within
the overall marketing strategy.
- Envisions, encourages, and enhances web-based communications.
- Answers www email inquiries providing answers and support for
web site visitors.
- Maintains competencies in Internet technologies.
