Martine Fernandes, Ph.D. Dr. Martine Fernandes is originally from France, near Paris. She is a native speaker of French and Portuguese, and also speaks Spanish. She received a PhD in French Literature & Language from the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne and the University of California, Berkeley in 2002. In 1994, she received the Agrégation in French Modern Literature. Education: Ph.D. in French, University of California, Berkeley French I, II, III, IV, Research Interests: Selected Publications: Les écrivaines francophones en liberté: Farida Belghoul, Maryse Condé, Assia Djebar, Calixthe Beyala. Hybridité identitaire et métaphores cognitives (Preface by Michel Laronde, Paris: L’Harmattan, 2007).
