Mission Statement

The Division of Languages, Literature, and Writing at USF St. Petersburg includes faculty and students in three distinct areas: Literature, Rhetoric & Composition, and Professional & Technical Writing. Traditionally, English departments have included these three areas of study; however, USF St. Petersburg will use our special programs to create and develop collaboration and reciprocal learning between all three areas. Students and faculty in all areas will be encouraged to develop relationships in which the differences and similarities of their scholarship are connected in innovative ways. Our goal is to produce both scholars and scholarship that look forward to the increasingly inter-disciplinary university of the 21st century. To achieve this goal, we are developing courses of study that provide both grounded instruction in a specialty and exciting opportunities to collaborate with scholars in other specialties and scholars in other disciplines.
