These special programs are designed to encourage intra-disciplinary collaboration for both students and faculty through a focus on issues of interest to individuals in all three of the specialties (Literature, Rhetoric & Composition, Technical & Professional Writing). In addition, the programs will allow the program in English to encourage collaboration with faculty and students in other disciplines across the campus, and with the larger community of St. Petersburg. While faculty within the department can (and will) have teaching and research interests that are specialized for all of the three disciplinary areas, these special programs will encourage movement across the specializations.

Discourses of Science and Technology, and the Environment: This program will focus on the production of knowledge that surrounds the scientific and technological development of society. All three of the areas of study within the Department of English can contribute to scholarly and teaching activities that relate to this program.

Texts, Performance, and the Arts: This program will focus on the connection that English studies has to the relationship between the production of texts and their performance, and the connection between English and other related disciplines in the Arts & Humanities.
