USFSP Psychological Science Organization

USFSP psychology majors are a very active group, and there are two organizations that support and serve our majors.

The Psychological Science Organization at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg is a unique student organization that was created to afford a career and post-graduate preparatory network to USFSP psychology majors, and to provide information about relevant on-campus psychology matters to non-majors.

The organization:

•  strives to maintain a vibrant community of psychology students by offering opportunities to gather at regular academic and social functions

•  serves an advocacy function for psychology majors by communicating psychology students' academic needs to program faculty and administration

•  sponsors special events that prepare and enable psychology students as they make career and post-baccalaureate graduate decisions

•  facilitates psychology majors' networking in their fields, by providing local internship listings, applications to professional societies, and calls for proposals at major regional, national, and international conferences

•  promotes campus-wide interest in and awareness of psychology student activities and accomplishments

•  operates as an information clearinghouse, through the media of meetings, social events, and published documents, to all interested in psychology.

Membership in the Psychological Science Organization is open to anyone having interest and involvement in the activities of the organization, and our faculty strongly encourage all USFSP students majoring or planning to major in psychology to become active members. Official membership requires only that students take part in at least one Psychological Science Organization event or meeting per semester.

For more information, please contact any member of the organization's executive student committee. The organization's office is located in DAV 243, in the same wing of Davis Hall as psychology faculty member offices. You may also contact the organization's advisor, Dr. James McHale (jmchale@stpt.usf.edu ; phone: 727-873-4963).

PSI CHI:  The National Honor Society in Psychology

Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the purpose of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. Psi Chi is the most dynamic organization of psychology students in the world. More than an honor society, Psi Chi is an exciting network of like-minded colleagues and experienced psychologists---a springboard for professional and personal growth. Psi Chi provides many new opportunities: to develop leadership skills, to network and develop one-on-one relationships with faculty and other psychology professionals, to socialize with other psychology students, to take advantage of educational and career-building programs, to serve your campus and community, and much more.  Please contact our advisor, Dr. Mark Pezzo (pezzo@stpt.usf.edu) or see the Psi Chi national website for more information:  www.psichi.org
