Enrollment in the B.S.W. program is limited. Students may apply for admission to to the School for the B.S.W. program during enrollment in either SOW 3302 or SOW 3203.  However, the completion of the prerequisites does not guarantee the student’s admission to the program. In an effort to achieve an appropriate faculty-student ratio, enrollments can be limited.
           

Admission requirements:

  1. Complete a minimum of one semester as a provisional social work major.
  2. Complete required common prerequisites and provisional courses.
  3. Complete an application for full admission to the program and file with the School of Social Work before the beginning of the semester in which admission is sought; dates will be announced in provisional courses
  4. A student may be asked to complete an admission interview with a favorable action from the Undergraduate Committee.
  5. Achieve a grade of “B” or better in SOW 3302, “Introduction to Social Work,” and SOW 3203, “The American Welfare System.”  (A grade of B- is not acceptable.)
  6. Complete CLAST, the College Level Academic Skills Test

State-Mandated Prerequisites:
Complete with “C” or better (C- is not acceptable) one course in
            American Government
            Biology (Human or Anatomy and Physiology)
            Economics (Micro or Macro)
            Introductory Psychology
            Introductory Sociology/Social Problems

 

Foundation Courses:
Complete with “C” or better (C- is not acceptable) one cross-cultural course  (See adviser for list) and complete with a “B” or better SOW 3203 and SOW 3302.

Social Work Core Courses (38 credits)

Human Behavior and Social Environment – SOW 3101, SOW 3102, SOW 4522

Social Welfare:  Policy and Program – SOW 4233

Social Research – SOW 3401

Social Work Practice – SOW 4341, SOW 4343

Field Experience – SOW 4510, SOW 4510L
