About the Area
The University of South Florida St. Petersburg is ideally located on Bayboro Harbor, just one mile south of the dynamic and growing urban center of downtown St. Petersburg. The waterfront campus shares space with the U.S. Geological Survey, the Knight Center for Oceanographic Research, the Florida Wildlife Research Institute, and the College of Marine Science. The urban centers of Tampa and St. Petersburg are home to numerous public and private entities working on issues related to the environment.
The Gulf Coast of Florida provides a laboratory for a myriad of environmental concerns. A growth pole, Pinellas County attracts millions of visitors and thousands of new residents each year. Economic and residential growth pressures fragile riverine, estuarine, aquatic, and arid upland ecosystems. Scientists and students in the Graduate Program in Environmental Science and Policy are uniquely placed to work hands-on with some of the most pressing environmental problems of our time.
And, Pinellas County is a great place to live! The country’s best beaches and recreational opportunities are located on the Gulf Coast. Enjoy 360 days of sunshine a year!
