Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest professional association devoted to human resource management. Our mission is to serve the needs of HR professionals by providing the most current and comprehensive resources, and to advance the profession by promoting HR’s essential, strategic role. The Academy of Management (the Academy; AOM) is a leading professional association for scholars dedicated to creating and disseminating knowledge about management and organizations. Founded in 1936 by two professors, the Academy of Management is the oldest and largest scholarly management association in the world. Today, the Academy is the professional home for 17614 members from 105 nations.
The Academy of International Business is the leading association of scholars and specialists in the field of international business. Established in 1959, today, AIB has 2938 members in 72 different countries around the world. Members include scholars from the leading global academic institutions as well consultants, researchers, and NGO representatives. We welcome individuals and institutions from developing countries, newly industrialized countries, as well as industrialized countries to join AIB. The Academy also has thirteen chapters established around the world to facilitate networking as well as the facilitation and exchange of knowledge at a more local level.
The Southern Management Association is a regional affiliate of the Academy of Management. Its primary mission is to advance the research, teaching, learning, and practice of management. Presently, the SMA membership consists of over 900 management professors, doctoral students, and executives representing more than 200 colleges, universities, and business firms in 43 states and several foreign countries. SMA provides a variety of professional activities and events for those who are interested in the study of management. Towards this end, the critical objectives of SMA are the development and dissemination of new ideas and approaches to the research, teaching, and practice of management. It strives to keep members abreast of new knowledge and practices in the field and to create a professional community that exchanges ideas and provides assistance to others. In addition, SMA maintains the currency of knowledge and skills of members, as well as shares expertise about how to achieve excellence in the performance of our academic and professional roles. Finally, SMA promotes collegial relationships and friendships.
Our organization is unique in bringing together the worlds of reflective practice and thoughtful scholarship. The Society consists of more than 2,000 members representing a kaleidoscope of backgrounds and perspectives from more than fifty different countries. Membership, composed of academics, business practitioners, and consultants, focuses on the development and dissemination of insights on the strategic management process, as well as on fostering contacts and interchange around the world.
ASTD is the world’s largest association dedicated to workplace learning and performance professionals. ASTD’s members come from more than 100 countries and connect locally in almost 140 U.S. chapters and 25 Global Networks. Members work in thousands of organizations of all sizes, in government, as independent consultants, and suppliers. ASTD started in 1944 when the organization held its first annual conference. ASTD has widened the profession’s focus to link learning and performance to individual and organizational results, and is a sought-after voice on critical public policy issues.
