Information Systems

Students studying Information Systems prepare themselves to work with managers and users in organizations, helping them identify, select, and/or develop information technologies to accomplish their objectives. Students gain a broad business foundation as well as the necessary technical skills to solve a wide variety of business problems involving the collection and management of information.

What is Information Systems?

The study of Information Systems (IS) covers a wide range of activities involved in the application of computer technologies to business processes. IS specialists work closely with organizational users, designing, implementing, and managing the computers, systems, networks, and data that support key business activities. Their work requires an understanding of rapidly evolving computer technologies as well as the human factors associated with their use in organizational settings.

Career Opportunities in Information Systems

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the market for IS professionals and others with strong technology skills will experience steady growth in the years ahead, providing career opportunities in business analysis, database and network administration, Web development, electronic commerce project management and related fields.
