Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE) Information Page

ImportantImportant Update
As of the September 8th, 2007 test date, the University of South Florida ceased to administer CEFEs (Certification Exams for Florida Educators). A private testing company, National Evaluation Systems, has been awarded the FTCE/FELE contract and will begin administering the new exams in October 2007. Please note that the new company, NES, is no longer producing a print bulletin (like the old FTCE/FELE paper registration guide produced byUSF).

Registration for all portions of both exams is migrating to a web-based system, with online registration for paper-based testing. Visit www.fl.nesinc.com to register for any portion of the FTCE or FELE, beginning with the October 13, 2007 administration. Online registration will be available during the regular, late, and emergency registration periods. For information regarding FTCE or FELE exams to be administered on or before September 8, 2007, call (813) 974-2400 (option 8) or visit www.cefe.usf.edu.

goDescription of the FELE Tests
Candidates seeking certification in Educational Leadership in the state of Florida are required by Florida State Board of Education Rule 6A-4.00821, FAC, to take this examination.

The examination covers the eight areas of the Florida Educational Leadership Core Curriculum listed in the rule. The eight areas are divided into three subtests:

  • Subtest 1 - School Management: Leadership, Management, Personnel
  • Subtest 2 - Communications
  • Subtest 3 - School Operations: Curriculum, Finance, Law, Technology

Each subtest consists of multiple-choice questions. Subtest 2 also contains an essay designed to determine proficiency in written communication. The essay is scored holistically by trained experts.

Please visit Florida State University's Certification Examinations for Florida Educators Web site for information pertaining to score verification dates, locations, and instructions for attending a score verification session.
