Leadership Studies Program

Program Certificates and Minor

Students from all colleges and majors are invited to pursue this program of leadership study and development.

Mission:

USF St. Petersburg offers a distinctive, interdisciplinary undergraduate program of courses that address generic leadership theories and practices with an emphasis on ethical leadership. This program of study leads to program certificates and/or the Leadership Studies Minor.

Students learn the leadership theories and practices necessary to make positive contributions to adaptive social change and the common good in their chosen professions and communities. Personal and ethical development is stressed. Program faculty employ interactive and experiential teaching methods wherever possible.

Leadership Studies Minor:

This minor consists of 18 credit hours, which require students to maintain a minimum of a "B" (3.0) average. Students must complete the core courses of Leadership Fundamentals (SLS 2260), Survey of Leadership Readings (SLS 4272), and Community Leadership Practicum (SLS 3948) plus three additional courses from the list of approved courses on the reverse side.

Program Certificates:

Two certificates of completion are awarded by the program. The first, in Leadership Studies, is awarded upon completion of the core courses listed above for the Minor (SLS 2260, 4272, and 3948). The second certificate, in Ethical Leadership Studies, is awarded upon completion of the core courses plus one additional course, Ethics and Power in Leadership (SLS 4274).  Ethics and Power in Leadership was developed with support from the Bishop Program for Ethical leadership and the program certificate recognizes completion of the course-work specified by the Bishop Program.
