College of Education Accepted as a Formal Candidate for National Accreditation
At its October 16-21, 2006 meeting in Washington, DC, the Unit Accreditation Board (UAB) of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) considered the application for candidacy of the College of Education, as the unit that oversees the professional education offerings at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. The Board’s decision was to accept the College as a formal candidate for accreditation.
A College of Education officially becomes a candidate after the UAB has declared that NCATE’s nine preconditions have been met. The College’s Preconditions report http://www.assessmentproject.com/ncate was approved without any recommended changes, the only report so approved at the October meeting. Approximately 50% of the preconditions reports submitted are accepted by the UAB, so the Board’s approval of the College of Education’s Preconditions without any recommended changes attests to the high quality of its faculty and programs.
In September of 2009, the College of Education will host a site visit from the NCATE Board of Examiners. - Until it receives its separate NCATE accreditation, the College of Education at USF St. Petersburg will remain an NCATE accredited institution under the umbrella of the NCATE accreditation of USF Tampa.
