BAC System Configuration

The project is implemented using a hybrid system of electronic card readers, metal keys, and scheduleding system for electric locks. In most buildings, all that's needed is to equip one or two exterior doors with card readers. Remaining exterior doors can be locked automatically at scheduled times. All doors will allow people to exit the buildings after normal hours of operation or for emergency purposes. In buildings where interior areas are not accessible from a single exterior door, multiple card readers will be used.

The BAC system does require all faculty and staff to have a valid "Proximity" entry card. Faculty and staff are required to pay a $10 fee for lost entry cards.

BAC Classifications

A preliminary review of exterior doors was conducted before implementation of the system, and recommendations were provided for the intended use of BAC on each door and building. The classifications of the entries listed below are part of that preliminary review. They are subject to change based on updated requirements or input from building occupants. The doors are classified as follows:

Card Access: Indicates that this entry will be scheduled to lock automatically, and will be equipped with a card reader to permit access after scheduled building hours.

Egress Only: Indicates that this entry will be monitored by the system, and will only be used to exit the building at all times. The new hardware will remove entry from the exterior.

Timed Lock: Indicates that this entry will be scheduled to lock automatically according to a daily schedule. During normal operating hours, this door may be used for entry, but after operating hours the door will be locked and entry will not be permitted.

Monitor Only: Indicates that this entry will be monitored by the system to ensure that the door is not propped open. These doors are otherwise not controlled by the system, such as for card scheduling. This is typically used for individual offices with exterior doors.

Not Monitored: Indicates that this entry will not be included in the BAC Project. An example of this door is a closet door that is open to the outside. These doors do not provide entry into the building, just a small closet or storage space.
