Student Housing Telephone Service

Overview of Features
Index of Dialing Codes
Local Calling Area

Introduction

Local phone service, like Internet access, is provided to resident students at no additional charge. Students must bring their own phone and answering machine, preferably one that is caller ID ready, since several caller ID features are available on our phone network (read below).

Each bedroom is equipped with an active telephone port. Students may also purchase a second line — please talk with an RA at the 1st floor front desk for more information. Long distance telephone calls require calling cards. You may purchase any calling card of your choice for long distance calls.

Overview of Features

Enhanced 911: e911, also known asreverse 911, is available on our residence hall phone network, and is registered with the Pinellas County e911 system. Using a reverse telephone directory, the e911 calling system can automatically associate a call with a physical address and room number, as required by the Wireless and Public Safety Act of 1999.

Voicemail: Voicemail is available with the answering machine feature of your telephone or a separate answering machine. You may also use the call forwarding feature of our phone system to forward calls to your mobile phone.

Caller ID: Caller ID service is also provided for free, but is only available to phones have the caller ID feature.

Fax and modem support: Your telephone line may also be used for FAX machines and PC modems. If you need help setting up your telephone line for a fax or modem, please submit a service call through our online ticket system or call Campus Computing at (727) 873-HELP.

Malicious Call ID: Our Malicious Call ID feature (listed below) is a feature that allows you to report a call of a malicious nature, by requesting that the phone system identify and register the source of an incoming call on our network. If it's an authentic malicious call, please report the call to the USFSP campus police by calling (727) 873-4140.

More features: Call waiting, call forwarding and conferencing are also available. The table below describes some of the dialing codes for activating or using these features.
