Welcome

This website is primarily intended to keep the USF St. Petersburg community up-to-date on activities related to the campus's current process of seeking separate accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

SACS is the non-governmental organization that regulates the accreditation of educational institutions in the southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia) and Latin America. The Commission on Colleges oversees accreditation of higher education institutions that award associate, baccalaureate, master's, and/or doctoral degrees.

Purpose of Accreditation

Accreditation is a voluntary process; however

Accreditation enhances educational quality throughout the region by improving the effectiveness of institutions and ensuring that institutions meet standards established by the higher education community, and serves as a common denominator of shared values and practices among the diverse institutions.

Based upon reasoned judgment, the process stimulates evaluation and improvement, while providing a means of continuing accountability to constituents and the public.

[Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement, p. 3]

Process and Status of Accreditation

The University of South Florida St. Petersburg is accredited at Level V - 3 or fewer Doctoral Degrees, Level VI - 4 or more Doctoral Degrees.
