a
lively discussion with the Mayor, asking questions on such diverse
topics as the Mayor’s efforts to cope with homelessness – to the
recent controversial attempted “suicide” concert – to funding
for the arts – to homeland security. Students were also able
to ask about the history of St. Petersburg – from the Mayor who
literally wrote the book! (Mayor Baker’s book about the history
of St. Petersburg, Mangroves to Major Leagues: A Timeline of
St. Petersburg, Florida, is available at the Poynter Library.)
Professor
McLauchlan said of the visit, “We were delighted that the Mayor
made time in his busy schedule to speak to our class. It was an
informative and engaging discussion.”
The
class is preparing for the Oct. 23 visit of Congressman Jim Davis.
