USFSP
Launches Senior Scholars Program
USF St.
Petersburg (USFSP) announces the development of its new Senior
Scholars Program geared to meet the needs of the Bay area’s ever-growing
50-plus community.
“Today’s
technology can be intimidating,” said Patricia Scott, Senior Scholar
Program coordinator. “It is especially challenging for those of
us who are over 50. This unique program offers both basic and
advanced computer training specially tailored to the mature adult
who wants to become more proficient on their work or home computer.”
Participants
can choose from seven sessions in the basic computing course.
Introduction to Computers will familiarize participants
with their personal computer hardware, basics of the Windows operating
system, word processing, spreadsheets and databases. It also covers
graphics and Internet access. “This basic course provides a firm
foundation on which to build,” said Scott.
After taking
the basic course, or for those who have already mastered the basics,
there are six advanced courses from which to choose: Word Processing,
Files and Folders, Family Tree Maker, Graphics, Digital Photography,
and Microsoft Outlook and the Internet.
Class times
vary (morning and afternoon hours available for most courses)
and all meet at the Science Center of Pinellas County, 7701 22
nd . Ave. North (near Tyrone Square Mall). Registration is Sept.
22 through Oct. 9. Classes meet in six sessions and are taught
in Windows XP and MS Work Suite 2003. Each course costs $55 and
parking is free.
