When Rights Collide Kicks Off PEEC Spring Series

The series begins Wednesday, Feb 4 from noon to 1:30 in 130 Davis Hall. Dean Ritz, co-host of Ethically Speaking and Research Associate from the Practical Ethics Center at the University of Montana begins the spring series with When Rights Collide: Origins and Issues of Free Speech for Corporations.

Courses are free to the public and events are held in 130 Davis Hall at 140 Seventh Avenue South from noon to 1:30 pm . For more information, please call 727-553-4857.

Dr. Mark Gaulter“I teach courses in maths,” says Dr. Mark Gaulter , Assistant Professor of Mathematics. Mark Gaulter, son of Brian Gaulter, a famous United Kingdom math educator, came to the United States in 1994 after graduating from Cambridge University in England to study mathematics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. With his distinct English accent he is happy to discuss the characteristic vectors of unimodular lattices over the integers with his students. This research in number theory is unique in the field of mathematics. The breadth of courses Dr. Gaulter teaches includes calculus to algebra with a specialty graduate course in quadratic forms.

USF St. Petersburg To Host 32nd Florida Suncoast Writers' Conference, February 6-8, 2004

Norman MailerUSFSP Students, Faculty & Staff are invited to hear the Keynote Address by author Norman Mailer at 1pm Feb. 6 in the CAC. This part of the conference is free to USFSP Students, Faculty & Staff - bring your ID.

Acclaimed writer Norman Mailer, along with authors Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, Verlyn Klinkenborg, and Robert Olen Butler, will be featured speakers at the 32nd annual Florida Suncoast Writers’ Conference, to be held at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, Feb. 6-8, 2004. The USF conference, which brings nationally known speakers and workshop faculty to the Tampa Bay area, is considered one of the nation’s top ten conferences for aspiring and published writers.

Lecture Helps Parents and Teachers Encourage Children to Get the Rest They Need

Dr Mark Durand speaking toparents and teachersWhen children have recurrent trouble sleeping, their families must deal with negative effects on behavior, mood, social interactions, physical stamina and performance at school or work.

“Parents can be just desperate,” said V. Mark Durand, PhD, professor of psychology and dean of the college of arts and sciences, to a group of nearly 20 parents, teachers and students. The lecture focused on sleep problems for children with special needs, though Durand said the techniques could be used by all parents.

USFSP CARES - Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to help with the Special Olympics games held on Saturday, March 6th at Lakewood High School. Volunteers will work the track events, soccer, and helping with the awards. If interested, contact Barry McDowell, 3-4990 or mcdowell@stpt.usf.edu
