The presentation will review the development of testing of accountability in Florida, and will offer a critique of the contradictions in this approach to accountability in the context of the rhetoric of equal educational opportunity.

Parking Lot #4 is open for faculty, staff and students with green hangtags. The lot offers more than 100 new parking spaces and is located  between Sixth and Seventh Avenues and Second and Third Streets. There is an entrance on Sixth Avenue and another on Seventh Avenue via the alley.

System Shutdown of Campus Water this weekend because of work on our chilled water expansion project. Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21. Facilities Planning & Construction appreciates your understanding and patience.

Due to maintenance on the system equipment, the campus will be without air conditioning Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21. Coquina Hall, Davis Hall, Bayboro Hall, Nelson Poynter Library, Campus Activities Center, Florida Center for Teachers, and the SPN Building are affected.

Campus Inaugurates Tomorrow’s Leaders Symposium, deadline approaches

Tuesday, April 20, USF St. Petersburg will stage its inaugural Tomorrow’s Leaders Symposium in Davis Hall Lobby. The event, which is slated to become an annual one, will showcase the innovative research and creative work that undergraduate students have produced during the past academic year under the tutelage and support of the our faculty.

Deadline for submission of student proposals is Thursday, April 1. Submissions may be given to James McHale, PhD (DAV-258) or Ray Arsenault, PhD (SNL-100).

I am USF St. Petersburg: Mark Durand

Mark DurandV. Mark Durand, USF St. Petersburg’s first Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, is an international authority in the area of developmental disabilities in children. His noted areas of research focus on children with severe behavior problems, such as aggression, self-injury and sleep disorders, have resulted in the development of unique treatments that are used internationally.

He has developed an assessment tool to measure and evaluate severe behavior problems that is used internationally and has been translated into more than 15 languages.

Academic Affairs announces web contest winners

Gary Olson, PhD, Interim AVP Academic Affars, citing the hard work of all participants announced the winners of the divisional web site contest in a Monday meeting.

Those awarded most outstanding site were:

Faculty - Scott Waring, PhD, College of Education

Category prizes included a cash award for most outstanding faculty, department and college web sites.

Contest judges included Graphic Design student Nichele Nutt, Academic Affairs Coordinator Jennifer Baker, Webmaster John Husfield and Educational Technology Professor Todd Taylor, PhD, of UNC.

Noting that Arts and Sciences won the most outstanding college award in a "very close decision", Olson referred to the judges comments that "this site (CAS) presented a user interface that incorporated a pleasing design which was both easy to navigate and quick to load into the browser".


Final Friday Features Twilight Jazz by the Bay

This month, chill out on Harborside Lawn with colleagues and community members for Final Friday, March 26 at 5 pm. This month's Final Friday features a faculty quartet from the USF School of Music. 

This month's Final Friday is hosted by Regional Chancellor Karen A. White, DMA, and Associate Vice President for Finance Abdul Nasser. This month's event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call 727-553-4455.

USF President's Trio at the Palladium Offers USFSP Special Ticket Rate

USF faculty, staff and students will receive a special offer of two tickets for the price of one when t he USF President's Trio appears at the Palladium Theater, Encore Chamber Music Series, Thursday, March 18.

A reception begins at 6:30 pm with the performance at 7:30. Simply present a valid university ID to claim the special offer. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for students.

Bulls Pep Rally to Take Over BayWalk

Join alumni, faculty, staff and students Wednesday, April 7 for USF St. Petersburg's first pep rally at BayWalk.

Football Coach Jim Leavitt, the Herd of Thunder Marching Band and cheerleaders will be on hand to fire up fans for the Green & Gold Game at Raymond James Stadium that weekend. The pep rally starts at 12:30 pm at BayWalk.
