Fall Application
Deadlines Extended
The deadline
for domestic, undergraduate and transfer student applications is
midnight August 1 for USF St. Petersburg, USF Lakeland and USF Sarasota/Manatee.
To alert local students of the extension, ads are running in several
Bay Area newspapers.
Applications for “former students returning”
have been extended to August 1 for all campuses. This is considered
any degree-seeking undergraduate student who has not earned his/her
degree, who has not been enrolled at USF in any of the last three
terms, and who wishes to re-enroll.
For more
information or to direct a student to regist, please call Rosemary
Trukenbrod, enrollment services administrative assistant, at 3-4879.
Administrative
Titles Reflect Campus Nomenclature
To reflect
the change of title that Regional Chancellor Karen A. White received
in February, titles for administrators such as Abdul Nasser, associate
vice president for administration and finance, have changed. Nasser’s
working title has changed to Regional Vice Chancellor for Administration
and Finance.
White said the working titles are now more
reflective of USF St. Petersburg’s reporting structure and
the duties of the administrative team. These new titles do not affect
the salaries of the administrative team.
In addition to Nasser, working titles have changed
for Charles L. Brown, now Regional Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs,
James S. Malek, Interim Regional Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs,
Christopher F. D'Elia, Regional Associate Vice Chancellor for Research
and Community Partnerships and Holly Kickliter, Regional Associate
Vice Chancellor for University Relations.
New Parking
Permit Machine Coming Soon
Visitors
to campus will soon be able to purchase a parking permit after hours.
A parking permit machine is being installed this month at the Welcome
Center on the corner of 5th Avenue South and 2nd Street. The daily
permits cost $3 and the machine, accessible by drive-thru and walk-up,
will accept coins, dollars and credit cards, but change will not
be available.
“This
machine will make a night and day difference for parking on this
campus,” said Rusty Richmond, coordinator of public safety.
“It is currently difficult for guests for special events to
visit the campus, especially early in the morning and at night.
Having a machine where people can easily drive up and purchase a
permit will be wonderful.”
On the day
of purchase, staff, faculty, students and guests can park in any
green space on the St. Petersburg campus and should display the
permit on their car dashboard.
Committee Offers On-Campus Student Service
Last month, USF St. Petersburg became the first regional campus
to provide students with the services of a local Academic Regulations
Committee, an important step toward operational autonomy for the
campus, said Kevin Coughlin, ARC chair and director of admissions
and records.

Program
puts reading within reach
St. Petersburg Times
The diminutive
third-grader arrived at summer reading camp early on a May morning
with three strikes against him.
Diagnosed as emotionally mentally handicapped,
his IQ hovered somewhere around 70. He had failed third grade. And
he could barely read.
Six weeks later, under the tutelage of caring
teachers, at least one of his challenges had begun to recede. The
child had learned how to read a book.
