Snell Family
Visits Campus to Share Memories
Members of the Snell family,
Perry G. and Janann Snell from Sarasota, and their
niece Laura Snell, a third year student at Stetson College of Law,
recently stopped by the Snell House to share memories and mementos
from their family history. Library Dean Kathy Arsenault joined them
to review family photos and clippings. The Snell family was among
St. Petersburg's first families.
"C. Perry Snell was one of the shaping forces of St. Petersburg
and his heritage continues to delight residents and visitors to
the area," said Arsenault. "Information about C. Perry
Snell and his life will be of increasing interest to the community."
In the last few years, the Nelson
Poynter Memorial Library has amassed a growing collection of materials
relative to Florida Studies and the history of St. Petersburg. In
addition to letters from C. Perry Snell already in the library,
the additional materials from the Snell family will enhance the
collection.
Later this year, the descendants of C. Perry Snell, including Perry
G., Janann and Laura, plan to participate in the 100-year anniversary
celebration of the USF Snell House, hosted by the Florida Studies
Program.

I Am USF
St. Petersburg: Bill Benjamin
Every day faculty, staff
and students request everything from guest speaker honoraria and
microscopes, to flag poles, ceiling tiles and vacuum cleaners. But
to acquire these items for campus use, there is one campus destination
that cannot be bypassed – USF SP's Purchasing Department.
The department is led by Bill Benjamin, coordinator of purchasing.
Bill strategically guides people through complex policies and procedures
to help provide the best product for each person's needs. He determines
the proper course of action for both major and minor university
purchases. Whether it is an “Invitation to Bid” or a
“Request for Proposal,” Bill guides staff and faculty
with the required steps to ensure that the process is fair and competitive,
leading to University contracts with certified vendors.
