Guest Lecturer Brings Provocative Topic
Avi Sagi-Schwartz, Ph.D., will speak at the next Psychology Colloquium. His topic is "Are children of Holocaust survivors less well-adapted? No evidence for secondary dramatizations across generations." (Thursday from 11 a.m. - noon in DAV 130.)

Bigger & Better, Barnes & Noble 
Barnes & Noble Booksellers will open a new, larger store in retail space in the new parking garage.  The 10,000 square foot store is three times the size of the existing store in Coquina Hall.

Nelson Poynter Library Fights SPAM Differently

The Nelson Poynter Library has additional SPAM protection in addition to the one provided by the campus for stpt.usf.edu and spadmin.usf.edu e-mail accounts previously highlighted in eNews. 

Because the Poynter Library routinely sends and receives mass e-mails it needs different protection against viruses.

Governor Jeb Bush and the Board of Governors recently reappointed five members of the University of South Florida Board of Trustees.

Turtle conservationist George L. Heinrich will present "Diamondback Terrapins: Living on the Edge" Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in Davis Hall 130. The seminar is free and open to the public.

Financial aid hopefuls had their first taste of FAFSA Frenzy. The financial aid office kicked off the event geared toward educating students and assisting them with their financial aid requirements Feb. 9.

Progress Energy Grant for Summer Teaching Institute
Lisa Austin knows the value of hard work.  Not only is she a full-time teacher at Safety Harbor Elementary School, but she’s also enrolled in Educational Leadership classes at USF St. Petersburg.  Austin is pursuing her Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership through a program called School Leadership for Results.

Security of Personal Information
Tom Lewis, Secretary for the Department of Management Services (DMS), addresses allegations of a potential security breach involving Convergys, the vendor that operates People First, the state personnel system.   Specific allegations include releasing state employee personal information to a subcontractor for scanning and cataloging purposes and inappropriately accessing and viewing state employee personal information.

HR will remain in close contact with DMS through this process and will keep you informed of any further developments. If you have any questions, feel free to contact HR Benefits at 974-2970.

Final Friday

Contact Correction

Last week eNews ran an article from the USF St. Petersburg Police Department on identity theft. The contact information for Sgt John A. Spiculgia was incorrect. Sgt. Spiculgia' s correct extension is 3-4981.



Award Nomination Deadline

All nomination packets including: nomination form, letter from the nominator and three letters of support must be turned into Human Resources no later than 5:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17. Nomination forms are located on the HR Web site.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate any outstanding employees.
