USF St. Petersburg hired a new
vice chancellor for Administration and Finance who
has more than 35 years in higher education
finance. Ashok K. Dhingra, D.P.A., will
start the job April 21.

Library Dedication Recognizes
Family
In a ceremony Thursday, Feb. 23, USF
St. Petersburg dedicated the library in the
historic Williams House to one of St. Petersburg’s
pioneering families and the owners of Derby Lane
greyhound track, naming it the Derby Lane Library.

Final Friday Fun
Although Davis 130 wasn’t quite the same as
hanging out by the pool, last week's Final
Friday, sponsored by Student Services, was a
success. Rain forced the Mardi Gras party to
move to Davis Hall.

One is complete and looking beautiful. The

Walters Chronicles
Extinction
Mark Jerome Walters, D.V.M., associate
professor of Journalism and Media Studies, spent
years searching the Hawaiian Islands for
information about the culture’s sacred raven, the
Alala. Walters has compiled what he discovered in
his cleverly crafted non-fiction book, Seeking
the Sacred Raven: Politics and Extinction on a
Hawaiian Island which will be published this
spring.

12-18 months. A photo is planned with the staff

Special
Olympics Volunteers Needed
If you enjoy sports, the Special
Olympics could use your help on March 4 from 8:30
a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed to assist
with the track and field events for the
developmentally challenged. The games are held at
Lakewood High School. No skills are needed.
If you are
interested in volunteering contact Barry McDowell,

up.
