New Dean Hired in College of
Business
V. Mark Durand, vice chancellor for
academic affairs, announced the hiring of Geralyn
McClure Franklin, Ph.D., as its new dean of
the College of Business. Franklin will join USFSP
in mid-July.
Durand said Franklin has an outstanding
administrative background as well as an exemplary
scholarly record.

featured a new guest of honor, Residence Hall One.
More than 150 guest, including elected
officials, executives, board members, faculty and
students toured the hall and gathered on the plaza

Professors Receive Major
Grant
Of the millions of American
youngsters at risk for adjustment difficulties,
children with mothers serving jail sentences are
near the top of the list. Yet surprisingly, such
children are only rarely a focus of studies.
A USF St. Petersburg/USF Tampa collaborative
aims to change that, supported by a new award of
$300,000 from The National Institute of Child
Health and Human Development.

Student Honored with Research
Fellowship
USF St. Petersburg graduate student
Meeghan Kane received another honor in her college
career. She was awarded the prestigious Patrick
Riordan Memorial Research Fellowship for 2006.
The month-long, in-residence research
fellowship is given each year to an M.A. student
or Ph.D. candidate engaged in thesis or
dissertation research on a Florida Studies topic.

Honors Student Wins
National Scholarship Roxanne Hastings, a USFSP Honors
student, was awarded a National Oceanographic
Atmospheric Administration Hollings
Scholarship. She begins her fourth year this fall
with a major in chemistry and a minor in
Environmental Science and Policy.
