USFSP Achieves Separate
Accreditation
The Commission on Colleges of the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
recommended separate accreditation to USF St.
Petersburg on June 23. This accreditation of USF
St. Petersburg is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2006.
The date of the decision was exactly one year
after SACS recommended the campus fast track its
site visit from spring 2007 to 2006.

Tradition of Giving Breaks
Record Faculty and staff contributed a
record amount in the annual Faculty and Staff
Campaign at USF St. Petersburg. The drive
wrapped up June 30 with more than $43,000 raised,
65 percent higher than the goal of $26,000.

New USF Alumni Chairman
Charley
Harris of St. Petersburg was elected chairman of
the board of directors of the University of South
Florida Alumni Association at the organization's
annual meeting in June.
He replaces John Thomas, who will remain active
as immediate past chairman and member of the board
of directors.

Services, announced he's retiring. His last day
will be Friday, Sept. 29.

Multicultural Affairs
La-Tarri Canty
comes to USF St. Petersburg from the State
University of New York, College at
Oneonta. The New York native is looking forward
to implementing social change for students of
underrepresented populations through leadership,
advocacy and mentoring.
She begins work Friday, Aug. 11.

Heller! Governor Jeb Bush signed the
bill into law that changes the name of Coquina Hall to
H. William Heller Hall when the professor of Special
Education retires.

Outstanding Graduate Applications
The USF Alumni Association and
Pinellas County Alumni Chapter are accepting
nominations for the Summer 2006 Outstanding
Graduate. The due
date is Monday, July 18.
Seniors completing course work this summer may
nominate themselves or be nominated by a member of
the University community. Candidates must have at
least a 3.5 GPA to be considered for this award.
An application and two letters of recommendation
are required by the deadline.
Please assist the Alumni
Association by forwarding this information and the
application to qualified students.
