As cars and trucks arrived on Second
Street South in front of Residence Hall One,
people craned their necks to get a good look
at the new hall.
Wednesday, Aug. 23 was Move-in Day, and the
majority of the students living in the hall moved
in as soon as they could.

Record-Breaking Freshman
Class Along with a new residence hall,
USF St. Petersburg welcomed its
largest freshman class. 257 students
enrolled this fall, more than 30 percent
larger than fall 2005.

Center for Civic Engagement
Launch
Efforts are underway to launch the
Center for Civic Engagement and the Citizen
Scholars Program. The center’s director
is professor of government and pre-law
advisor Judithanne Scourfield McLauchlan,
Ph.D.
There is an informational meeting for faculty
and staff to discuss the center’s mission and ways
to get involved in the Chancellor’s Suite

Grant Provides for More
Ethiopian Trips
Anthropologists John Arthur, Ph.D.,
and Kathryn Weedman, Ph.D., received a National
Endowment for the Humanities award of almost
$150,000 for a project funded until April
2009. The project is “An ethnoarcheological
study of the Gamo Caste System in southwestern
Ethiopia.”

Bulls football
fans, save the date!
Friday, Sept. 29 is USF St. Petersburg
Football Night. Free football tickets will be
distributed from the CAC Activities Desk starting
Monday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. Faculty or Staff
only, with a USF ID card, may claim up to six
tickets. First come, first serve. It's
the Bulls vs. Rutgers.
