Barnes & Noble USF St. Petersburg Opens Tuesday
The grand opening of the new Barnes & Noble USF St. Petersburg superstore is Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. The new bookstore is located at 500 Third Street South. The event will include music, samples from the bookstore café and prizes.

Festival of Reading Returns to Campus
The 14th Annual St. Petersburg Times Festival of Reading is taking place Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will once again be held here at USF St. Petersburg. More than 60 celebrated authors will be in attendance and among them some of our own faculty authors.

Academic Success Center Helps Improve SATs
With colleges becoming more competitive each year, students need to work harder to set themselves apart from the crowd. USF St. Petersburg’s Academic Success Center offers Pinellas County high school students a free eight-week SAT preparation program on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Education graduate students have a new opportunity for funding their studies. The College of Education has a new scholarship for up to 35 new students interested in obtaining their master’s degree or certificate in Special Education and ESOL; Elementary Education and ESOL; and Reading.

Campus Air Conditioning Improvements in the Works
Construction has begun on the chiller plant in front of Bayboro Hall. Facilities Planning is working to double the capacity of the central chillers to support recent and planned growth on campus.

Starting Monday, Oct. 30 the parking lot in front of the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library will be closed due. Handicapped parking for the Library will still be accessible.


Gubernatorial Watch Party on Tuesday
After the recent studentvoter registration drive, the USF St. Petersburg Center for Civic Engagement, in partnership with Leadership Florida, is engating students gubernatorial election.

Mark Your Calendar for Homecoming Events
The University of South Florida will celebrate Homecoming from Monday, Oct. 30-Saturday, Nov. 4.

This year’s Homecoming, known as SuperBull X, is very special. It marks ten years of celebrations that have included football, and makes SuperBull the longest running USF tradition.

World Trade Center I-Beam Visits USFSP 
A piece of an I-beam from the World Trade Center was on display in Davis Lobby on Wednesday, Oct. 12 to honor National Fire Prevention Week. Representatives from the Florida State Fire Marshall Department answered questions about the exhibit.
New University Relations Coordinator
University Relations has hired Erika Llenza as its new University Relations Coordinator. Llenza was promoted from the Marketing Writer position, where her responsibilities included developing collateral materials to assist in the recruitment of prospective students.

She has a background in radio promotions and public relations agency work and is working on her master’s degree in public relations at USF Tampa.
