 USFSP Employees Take Office
 

H. William “Bill” Heller, professor in the College of Education, and Charlie Justice, College of Business advisor, were officially declared winners of the Florida House of Representatives District 52 and State Senate races respectively Nov. 7.

Heller and Justice will be officially sworn into office at the Organizational Session in Tallahassee Wednesday, Nov. 22.

 



 Southeast Regional Ethics Bowl Comes to Campus
 

The third annual Southeast Regional Ethics Bowl is Saturday, Nov. 18 in Davis Hall and Steidinger Auditorium from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Twenty student teams from universities across the region will compete against one another to provide the best arguments to difficult ethical issues of our time. Top teams will advance to the National Ethics Bowl in February. The Bowl combines the fun and excitement of a tournament with a valuable educational experience for undergraduate students.

 Arun Gandhi Visits Campus
 

Arun Gandhi, advocate for nonviolence and grandson of Mahatma K. Gandhi, will talk to students and the community Wednesday, Nov. 29 about “Lessons Learned from Grandfather” in the Campus Activities Center at 6:15 p.m.

 Scholarship Information Session
 

The College of Education is hosting an information session on its new graduate scholarship SUCCEED Tampa Bay Thursday, Nov. 16 in the Historic Homes Courtyard at 5 p.m.

 More Student Organizations Coming
 

Students asked for more clubs and student organizations and that is what they are getting. The Office of Student Life and Student Government are working to boost the number of student organizations to 40 during the spring semester.

 Essay Contest Winners Announced
 

Amy Alamillo and Sandra Estenger won the Center for Civic Engagement Essay Contest at the Get Out the Youth Vote Rally Nov. 6.

The Essay Contest challenged students to answer “What is at stake and why should I vote on Nov. 7, 2006?” in 500 words.

 D'Elia to Chair Science Center Board
 

D’Elia to Chair Science Center Board Christopher D’Elia, associate vice chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, was elected Chairman of The Science Center of Pinellas County, Inc. Oct. 24. He will serve as chairman for one year.

 Curran Receives Business Research Award
 

Timothy Curran, adjunct faculty instructor, was recently awarded the Silver Award by the Institute for the Study of Business Markets 2006 Academic- Practitioner Challenge.

 College Of Education Candidate for National Accreditation
 

The Unit Accreditation Board of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education accepted the College of Education as a formal candidate for accreditation.

 Pinellas Alumni Win Spirit Award
 

The Pinellas County Alumni Association Chapter won first prize for the second year in a row in the Most Spirited Homecoming Tent Competition at Bulls Roast with their 1950’s diner inspired “Rocky’s Café” tent. The tent design honored USF’s 50th anniversary.

 Chiller Expansion Continues
 

On Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 9 p.m. air conditioning will be shut off in Bayboro, Coquina and Davis halls in a continued effort to expand the chiller capacity to support campus growth. Air conditioning will resume Sunday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m.

 



 Pet Walk Team Helps SPCA
 

The USF St. Pete Pet Walk Team raised $930 for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Tampa Bay at the Paws on Parade Pet Walk Oct. 28.
