Governor Charlie Crist appointed Gus A. Stavros, USF St. Petersburg Campus Board Member, to serve on the Florida Board of Governors Jan. 26.

 Parking Lot to Become Recreation Field
 

Students clamored for more student life on campus and Student Government responded. Earlier this semester Lot 4, on the corner of 6th Avenue South and 3rd Street South, was closed for construction and will be transformed into a new recreational field for student use.

Ten USF St. Petersburg culinary enthusiasts competed in the annual campus Chili Cook-Off hosted by the Office of Multicultural Affairs on Jan. 23, but only some could earn placement and bragging rights for the year to come.

Faculty and staff now have an extra tool to send general announcements to the USFSP community. Harborside-News is the new, ideal way to inform the campus immediately of search committee meetings, candidate visitations, seminars, upcoming community activities, workshops, training and other public notices.

The Center for Civic Engagement has more than 200 scholarly books and articles deveoted to civic engagement and service learning in the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library reserve section. Faculty, staff and students can access these materials at the circulation desk.

 Orientation Leaders Needed
 

With the continued growth in student head count, New Student Orientation, driven by the Office of Student Life, has developed into a comprehensive program. But to keep up with the growing campus community, more students are needed to serve as Orientation Leaders and ambassadors for new students.
