Genshaft to Discuss Strategic Plan

 

USF President Judy Genshaft and Trustee Lee Arnold will be on campus tomorrow, Feb. 16 to lead a USF Strategic Planning Town Hall Meeting. The session will be held in DAV 130 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Faculty, staff and students are invited to take part in the strategic planning discussion.

Journalists and War

 


This weekend, journalists, media critics, academics and a Pentagon spokesperson will examine the role of journalism in war at the Journalist & War Conference Feb. 16-17 in Steidinger Auditorium.

This line up of experts, including Corey Flintoff, NPR newscaster currently reporting from Baghdad, will explore the ins and outs, challenges, philosophies and logistics to chronicling a thing called war.

Paul Rusesabagina will present his lecture "Hotel Rwanda: A Lesson Yet to Be Learned" for the Explore the World lecture series Sunday, Feb. 25 in the Campus Activities Center at 1 p.m.

Double-Digit Increase in Applications

 

 

Freshman applications are up more than 63 percent from just one year ago. Last year at this time 399 students had applied to USFSP. This year that number has jumped to 651.

Conference Discusses Overlapping of Senses

 

The Sixth Annual National Meeting of the American Synesthesia Association at USF St. Petersburg opened with a request most don't hear often:

"Leave your cell phones and pagers on so many of us can experience a world of colors and shapes," said Pat Duffy, co-founder of the ASA. "Although, we may argue upon which colors and shapes."

Her opening set the stage for a conference focusing on a topic unlike any other and attracting an eclectic mix of attendees including synesthetes, scholars, researchers and students.

Sailing Team Has Outstanding Weekend
 The USF Sailing Team showed exceptional teamwork the weekend of Feb. 3-4 with a winning margin of 21 points over 17 other South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association teams. The team competed at a combined SP-1 and NP-1 regatta hosted at the College of Charleston.

24th Annual Faculty and Staff Softball Event and Taste of Bulls Country

 

The 24th Annual USF Faculty and Staff Softball Event and Taste of Bulls is Saturday, March 24 at the USF Softball Complex on Sycamore Drive and under the Oaks east of the USF Soccer Stadium. Softball games start at 9 a.m., and there will be activities for children, as well as food and refreshments from Bulls Country restaurants and beverage vendors from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

USFSP faculty and staff interested in playing softball at the event as part of the intrepid Wharf Rats, please contact Marcus Berry in Recreation at 727-873-4202.
