A Piece of History Returns Home


 

One of the Gandy Bridge's original toll towers will begin its journey back to its home Thursday, June 14 at 9 a.m. The tower was entrusted to USF St. Petersburg in 1996 through the work of Rep. Bill Heller, then dean at the university, where it was restored to its original splendor and kept until now.

Ready for Hurricane Season


Hurricane season is underway and USF St. Petersburg has worked diligently to ensure that the campus is prepared for the season.

The Office of Campus Computing has set in place several modular, mobile and redundant communication methods to make certain students, faculty, staff and the campus community are kept informed in the event of a campus emergency.

Mayor Visits, Talks Politics


While students at other universities rely on textbooks and classroom discussion to learn about politics and government, students in Darryl Paulson's, Ph.D., Urban Politics and Government class supplemented their learning with a face-to-face discussion with St. Petersburg City Mayor Rick Baker Monday, June 4.

Intramural Basketball Competes Nationally


The USF St. Petersburg Intramural Basketball team competed in the American Collegiate Intramural Sports "Thrill on the Hill" National Basketball Tournament April 27-29 at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Forty-eight intramural programs competed in a pool-play, single-elimination tournament. USFSP nearly advanced to the final round until a buzzer-beater, one-point defeat to national runner-up Morehouse College.

Mr. Dad Visits Bay Area


Parenting isn't easy and sometimes parents feel like they could use a little help. Armin Brott, author of nationally-syndicated column Mr. Dad and host of syndicated radio program Positive Parenting, will talk about parenting Thursday, June 14 at the Campus Activities Center at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Free childcare and refreshments will be available and attendees will receive a free copy of "Bluepint for Men's Health" by Armin Brott.

University Employees Get Bonus


On Thursday May 24 Governor Charlie Crist signed the General Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2007-2008, which includes a one-time bonus for state and university employees.

Easy Way to Renew Parking Permints

The new academic year is on the horizon and with it comes time to purchase new parking decals. Last year, parking services introduced a mail-in option for permit purchases and its success has warranted a repeat performance.

Learn to Swim


The Office of the Waterfront is offering swimming lessons during the month of July for children of various swimming levels. The Learn to Swim program is taught by an American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructor.
