Stull Headed
to Afghanistan
Jim Stull, waterfront coordinator, will be taking a
leave of absence from USF
St. Petersburg
as of Wednesday, July 25 to assist the US Government with relief and
rebuilding programs in Afghanistan.

Dr. Zachi Milgrom, vice president of Hadassah College,
visited USF St. Petersburg Tuesday, July 10 for a luncheon with Dr.
Karen White, regional chancellor. He is visiting USF July 9-11 with a
special interest the areas of Communication Disorders, Biotechnology
and Hospitality Management.

Alumnus Wins American Cup
World-class sailor and USF St. Petersburg
alumnus Ed Baird guided Alinghi to win the 32nd America's Cup in Valencia, Spain, on Tuesday, July
3. Serving as Alinghi's helmsman, Baird steered the Swiss
defender against the challenger, Emirates Team New Zealand,
in the best-of-nine series.

Faculty and Staff Campaign Update
The 2007 Faculty and Staff Campaign is off to a great
start. So far, it is the most successful campaign to date, exceeding
the $40,000 goal and raising $60,000 for scholarships and programs
across the entire campus.

New Ant Findings
Undergraduate students Brandie Becker and Kim Vo, were
studying ant behavior in Deby Cassill's, Ph.D., associate professor of
biology, Experimental Design course when they stumbled upon a
new discovery-fire ants feign death as a self-defense mechanism.

Mixed-Messages Distress Toddlers
Soon-to-be parents should sit down and discuss their
approaches to parenthood prior to their baby's arrival, according to a
new research study by Psychologist James McHale, associate professor
and director of the USF St. Petersburg Family Study Center. His
research found that children as young as two years of age can show a
wide variety of social, emotional and behavioral adjustment
difficulties when their parents fail to establish a supportive
parenting relationship.

Easy Way to Renew Parking Permints
The new academic year is on the horizon and with it
comes time to purchase new parking decals. Last year, parking services
introduced a mail-in option for permit purchases and its success has
warranted a repeat performance.

A Night of Magic
Barnes & Noble USF St. Petersburg will celebrate the
release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh
book in the Harry Potter series, with an evening of wizardry and fun
Friday, July 20 from 10 p.m. to midnight. Festivities will include a
performance by Magician Christopher Oz.
