v NEW v James A. Fellows — Faculty Professor Fellows recently had a lead article published in the September/October, 2003 issue of The Journal of Taxation of Corporate Transactions titled "The Formation and Liquidation of the S Corporation." Fellows also has an article appearing in the fall issue of Real Estate Law Journal titled "The Federal Taxation of Vacation Homes: The Arcane and the Arbitrary" Ron Hill — College of Business Dean Dean Hill has recently had two articles published: - Ron Hill, Debra Stephens and Iain Smith (2003) "Corporate Social Responsibility: An Examination of Individual Firm Behavior" Business and Society Review , 108 (September), 339-362.
- Ron Hill (2003) "Homelessness in the United States: An Ethnographic Look at Consumption Strategies" Journal of Community and Applied Social Psychology , 13 (September/October), 128-137. Jerry Lander — Faculty Professor Lander was published in the August 2003 issue of International Advances in Economic Research. The article was titled "Models to Measure Goodwill Impairment" and was co-authored with Alan Reinstein of Wayne State University. David F. Walker— Faculty Recently, Professor Walker has made several seminar presentations to local groups on Responsible Corporate Governance and Effective Corporate Governance for Non-public Entities. He joined the Boards of Directors for two NASDAQ companies based in Pinellas County- First Advantage Corporation and Paradyne Networks, Inc. He is serving as Chairman of both Audit Committees of those Boards. In addition, he achieved the professional certification of Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) in August 2003.

Mark Pezzo - Faculty Assistant Professor of Psychological Science Mark Pezzo recently had a scientific article examining the causes of "hindsight bias" published in the British Journal Memory. He was also interviewed about his research for an article printed in the Boston Globe, August 5, 2003. Yanira Angulo-Cano - Faculty Professor Yanira Angulo-Cano, a member of the program in World Languages, recently was invited to present at a Yale University sponsored conference "Colonial Latin American Literature: A State of the Art." This invitation is the result of her significant contributions to the field of colonial Latin American literary studies and she will chair one of the sessions. Mark Walters - Faculty Journalism and Media Studies professor Mark J. Walkers has been invited to teach at a national seminar for professional journalists at University of California Berkley's prestigious Western Knight Center for Specialized Journalism in October. Also teaching at the intensive week-long seminar on medical and public health reporting will be Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's lead anthrax investigator Brad Perkins; PBS television correspondent Dr. Bruce Dan; and New York Times medical correspondent Larry Altman. Ron Hill - Faculty Dean Hill was interviewed by the St. Petersburg Times on the ethics of television programming that showcases individuals who pay to receive their "15-minutes of fame" without disclosing that fact to the viewing audience. James A. Fellows - Faculty College of Business Professor James Fellows has published an article titled "The Formation and Liquidation of the S Corporation" in the Journal of Taxation of Corporate Transactions. Fellows analyzes the intricate, labyrinthine, and arcane tax law that surrounds the formation and subsequent liquidation of corporations that have chosen to be taxed under Subchapter S of the Internal Revenue Code. Grover Kearns - Faculty Information Systems & Decision Sciences Professor has coauthored an article in the recent issue of the Decision Sciences journal (Winter 2003)and has a forthcoming article in the Information Resources Management Journal (January 2004). In August, he presented a paper at the Americas Conference on Information Systems in Tampa and, in November, is scheduled to present a paper at the Decision Sciences Institute Conference in Washington, DC. Both of these papers are to be published in the conference proceedings. V. Mark Durand - Faculty Dean Durand has been named a Fellow of Division 33 (Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities) of the American Psychological Association. In 1999, he was named a Fellow of Division 25 (Experimental Analysis of Behavior). This honor requires "evaluated evidence of unusual and outstanding contributions in the field of psychology. It is rare to be named a fellow in more than one division. R. Berry McDowell - Staff Congratulations to R. Berry McDowell, recently named Coordinator of Volunteer and Student Disability Services. Niran (Patrick) Malaolu - Student USFSP graduate student Niran Malaolu has returned to Nigeria to resume his position as newly appointed Commissioner of Information and Strategy, a cabinet position under Ogun State Governor Otunba Daniel. Gary Mormino - Faculty The Tampa Tribune recently published an article featuring Gary Mormino. In addition to being highlighted in the History and Heritage feature story about his new book in press, there was also notice of his move to our campus. This is the second story in as many months Sarah Partan - Faculty Professor Partan participated in an elite international workshop on multisensory perception organized by the Cognition research initiative of the NWO (Dutch Science Foundation). Researchers from around the world participated in the workshop being held in connection with the 2003 Neuroscience meeting that was held in New Orleans. Thomas Smith - Faculty Professor Smith has been invited to speak on humanitarian intervention at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington. This is part of a on-going project organized by the Carr Center for Human Rights at Harvard University H. William Heller - Faculty Bill Heller has been elected to be Chair of the Faculty Council for this year. Dr. Ellen Hufnagel, associate professor, College of Business will serve as vice-chair. |
