Poynter Library
is celebrating its 35th Anniversary! Come and celebrate this
momentous occasion on December 3rd from 12-2pm. The celebration
will take place outside between Poynter Library and Bayboro
Hall. Cake will be served! There will also be a showing with
live narration of the award winning “St. Petersburg
in 1929”. The film will be shown at 12:30-12:50 and
then again at 1:00-1:20 in the Instructional Media Studio
located on the second floor of the library.
John P. Jordan, a New York City engineer, shot this eighteen-minute
film while visiting the St. Petersburg area in early 1929.
The film vividly captures opulent hotels of Southern Pinellas,
including the Vinoy, the Jungle, the Rolyat, and a brief
glimpse of the Don CeSar. Follow Jordan’s camera as
he also visits the Pier, downtown St. Petersburg, alligators
near Coquina Key, Gulfport, Pass-a-Grille, the sponge docks
of Tarpon Springs, and other local venues. Jim Schnur will
be your tour guide for this journey through time.
