CRIME ALERT! USF POLICE CRIME ALERT BULLETIN The purpose of crime alert bulletins is to inform campus citizens of incidents or activities occurring in the community that may pose a threat to their safety and security. ATTENTION: SUSPICIOUS PERSON/REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER
A female USF student has reported that at approximately 6:30 p.m. on 04/14/05, a white male driving a dark blue chevrolet cavalier two-door had followed her from parking lot #3 (the road in front of Davis Hall) to the area of lot #4 (the un-paved lot north of the library). He reportedly said something unintelligible to her, and was making movements that could possibly be interpreted as lewd, although this was uncertain. This incident was reported to the St. Petersburg Police, and was reported to USFPD at a later date. A USFPD officer was then assigned to gather more information, but no suspect was identified. On 05/16/05, another female USF student reported a subject meeting the above description was circling lot #4 and staring at her. Our officers were able to locate the subject and identify him. He was a non-affiliate, and was issued a trespass warning. Further follow-up investigation and liaison with the St. Petersburg Police revealed that although not yet listed as a sex offender by FDLE, the subject had registered as a sex offender with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. His identity is as follows:
Robert Curtis Shumate
The vehicle that Mr. Shumate was driving was a 2001 Chevrolet 4 door, blue in color, tag #F62MRZ. Anyone who sees this individual on campus should notify the USF Police Department immediately.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was also notified of this incident. ALWAYS remember, "Members of the campus community need to continually take precautions for their safety and protection." Persons having information about ANY criminal incidents or who see ANY suspicious activity on campus, are encouraged to IMMEDIATELY contact the University Police at 553-4140.
This alert is made public in compliance with the Jeanne Clery (Campus Security) Act. |
