ATTENTION:

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT AND ATTEMPTS

(700 1ST ST S, LOT #4, LOT #12)

At approximately 0900 hours 10/28/04, the St. Petersburg Police Department informed us that they had been experiencing an increase in stolen vehicles and vehicle burglaries in the vicinity of USF. They advised that there had been a significant increase in auto thefts near the Bayfront Hospital and the surrounding area. They also said that there has been significant activity occurring on Saturday and Sunday. The primary targets of the thefts have been Dodge vans.

On 10/15/04, an attempted theft of a vehicle occurred at 700 1st St. S in SPPD jurisdiction contiguous to campus. The suspects, two young African American males, were interrupted by two USF staff members. They were attempting to steal a Dodge van, and were seen fleeing in a white Dodge van.

In lot #4 on our campus (the new unpaved lot), on Thursday 10/21/04, there was an attempted theft of a USF faculty member's vehicle. The suspect(s) were not successful, but did cause damage to the door and ignition locks. This incident occurred in the evening hours, and no suspects were seen.

On 10/23/04, a USF faculty member's vehicle was stolen from lot #12 (East of CAC) during the day. The vehicle, also a dodge van, was recovered off campus, no suspects were seen.

The University Police have increased patrols on the parking lots as a result of these incidents.
