CRIME ALERT!

USF POLICE SERVICES

CRIME ALERT BULLETIN
#06-001
07/22/06

The purpose of crime alert bulletins is to inform campus citizens of incidents or activities occurring in the community that may pose a threat to their safety and security.

ATTENTION:

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/ POSSIBLE SEX OFFENSE

OCCURRED: XERISCAPE AREA/ 5TH AVE SOUTH AT 4TH ST SOUTH

On  Saturday 07/22/06, just after 1130PM,  a female not affiliated with the university was found asleep and partially clothed on the edge of USF campus at the corner of Fifth Avenue South and Fourth Street South.  She was a resident of a local transient shelter, and had apparently been sleeping on a city bench. She felt someone else may have removed the clothing, and was concerned that she may have been the victim of a sex offense.

USF St. Petersburg Police Services and colleagues from St. Petersburg Police have completed a preliminary investigation of the incident, but it remains unclear at this time whether any crime actually occurred.  The results of forensic examinations will apparently not be available for a period of months. Due to these factors, this case will be placed on inactive status pending further developments and results of forensic examinations. Any further follow up investigation will be led by the St. Petersburg Police Department.

 ALWAYS remember,

"Members of the campus community need to continually take precautions for their safety and protection."

Persons having information about ANY criminal incidents or who see ANY suspicious activity on campus, are encouraged to IMMEDIATELY contact the University Police at 873-4140.

This alert is made public in compliance with the Jeanne Clery (Campus Security) Act.
