Internal Research Grants

The Internal Research Grants Program is administered annually by the USF St. Petersburg Office of Research.  The grants are awarded in two types: the Senior Investigator Research Grant (SIG) and the New Investigator Research Grant (NIRG). Both grant awards are intended to promote high-quality research, scholarship, and creative activity by research faculty at USF St. Petersburg. These internal awards (1) fund worthwhile scholarly research activities of a one-time nature; and, (2) provide seed money for research projects that will produce pilot data for proposals submitted to outside agencies for funding. Funds awarded in this competition are separate and distinct from a similar competition and funding on the USF Tampa campus. The application and guidelines for submission of the grant are provided by clicking on the appropriate link below.

The Process: How It Works

The USF St. Petersburg Research Faculty Council is involved in the review process. Applications are reviewed for completeness and adherence to formatting requirements. Written feedback is provided to each grant applicant for all applications submitted by the deadline. Award amounts are determined on the basis of program priorities, written reviews, and oral discussions by the review panel.  Should a member of the Research Council have a proposal pending or other serious conflict of interest with a given proposal, that member recluses himself or herself and an alternate is selected from the faculty. Once funding decisions are made, the award recipient will be notified a by e-mail with an official letter of announcement to follow.
