Research Council

The USF St. Petersburg (USFSP) is a standing committee of the Faculty Council. The Research Council advises the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research & Graduate Studies on policies and procedures relating to research and creative activity at USF St. Petersburg.

The Research Council activity may include, but is not limited to:

  • Evaluating applications for Internal Research Grant Program
  • Promoting faculty training, workshops, and education on topics of scholarship
  • Promoting an efficient process for approval of human subject research
  • Encouraging ethical and responsible scholarship and reporting of research
  • Encouraging ethical and responsible treatment of animals in research
  • Recommending policies for accounting of funded scholarship
  • Recommending policies for faculty assignments to encourage scholarship
  • Advising the Faculty Council on matters of creative scholarship and research
  • Supporting the academic freedom of faculty to pursue scholarship

Membership on the Research Council consists of two tenure-track faculty representatives from each of the Colleges: Arts & Sciences, Business, and Education; one representative from the Poynter Library; and one representative from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Members of the Research Council serve two-year terms on a rotating basis. Monthly meetings are scheduled throughout the academic year and are at the call of the chair. The Research Council Policies and Procedures are approved by the Faculty Council and provides further details on duties and responsibilities of the Council.
