Learn the basics of negotiating a consulting agreement with outside companies, including hownot to waive University patent rights, and the process for getting your consulting agreements approved through the University system.
Discussions regarding the federal restrictions on consulting income, what to do if a company wants to put you on retainer, and the pros and cons of accepting stock options in companies that want to hire you for your expertise in this interesting and informative workshop.

Training is now designed to fit the unique needs of your schedule. You tell us the date and time you want to train; and, we will arrange the place. Registration is quick and easy and confirmation is by e-mail. Most training last 45 minutes to 1 hr 15 minutes. Campus locations are convenient. A live facilitator conducts most sessions. On-line or web-based training can be accessed worldwide from the Internet. Access the Research web site for special notices of upcoming training opportunities. Funding 101: How COS Can Work for You - Funding 101: is a training workshop designed to introduce you to the funding database Community of Science (COS). The COS database contains approximately 400,000 funding opportunities and you will be provided with the valuable tools you need to navigate the database and find funding opportunities that are in line with your research interests.
Keeping A High Profile: COS Expertise Networking - COS Expertise training is a workshop designed to introduce you to the COS Expertise Database. Expertise contains approximately 450,000 self-edited profiles of researchers, scholars, and experts that can work as a valuable tool.
Grants.gov Workshop - Grants.gov is the single access point for over 1,000 grant programs offered by all Federal grant making agencies. This workshop serves as an introduction to Grants.gov.
New ......PI Awareness Training modules have been designed to be used as online training and as a resource reference center
- The first 5 modules have a short quiz at the end to reinforce key points and validate the trainings. The quiz results are sent to a database, and then each person’s training summary is updated in GEMS to show completion of the module. No self-service registration, NO VPN, no special password is required. Modules:
NEW……. On-Line Pert Certification Pert Certifier training is designed for use as an online training module and as a resource reference center. This certification is designed for all faculty, A&P, and USPS employees who are paid from federal funds or provide cost sharing to a project supervisors, PIS or CO-PIs of OPS employees paid from federal funds; and Department Representatives responsible for coordinating PERT reports.
PERT Certifier training is accessed online, no enrollment is required. Users just click the Send Email button at the end of the module and their training summaries will be updated in GEMS. We encourage you to take a moment to review this new training.

Grant Writing for Success: New 3-Part Series
From Concepts to Funding is a how-to– training on writing successful grants. This training is a 3-part series offered in the Fall 2007. The training is hands-on and the participant is encouraged to share a work in progress or a proposal that is to be submitted for agency consideration. E-mail your registration to pscott@spadmin.usf.edu. A return confirmation will be sent to your e-mail address. This 3-part series is facilitated by Rebecca Puig, director of USF Research Resources.
Florida Humanities Council: Opportunities for Florida Studies
The Florida Humanities Council (FHC) is dedicated to fostering community and a sense of place in Florida by providing lifelong education programs that explore Florida’s history, literacy, and artistic traditions, cultural values, and ethics. FHC funds a variety of types of public programming. All workshops are free and open to the public. FHC has awarded more than $8 million dollars in grants to community and educational organizations. Courses and Special Topics
USF Biosafety Training Course— (Core Course) This is the required course for those who have not completed it previously. It may be repeated in subsequent years to meet the annual requirement for continuing education. 1hr. 15 minutes completes the course
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Course— (Continuing Education Course) This course provides information about general personal protection equipment (RRE) available for use in biomedical laboratories. Topics include basic PPE types, protection levels, limitations, material types, selection, use and care, hazard recognition, policy, and resources available. This meets the annual continuing education requirement for those who have completed the core course in a previous year. This web-based training course can be accessed worldwide from the Internet or via a CD. To receive credit, you must pre-register on-line. 45 minutes completes the course
Biological Safety Cabinet Course - (Continuing Education Course) This course meets the annual continuing education requirement for those who have completed the core course in a previous year. This web-based training course can be accessed worldwide from the Internet. To receive credit, you must pre-register on-line. 45 minutes completes the course
Shipping Bio-hazardous Materials - (Special Topics) - Those personnel who ship and/or receive potentially infectious biological agents are required to complete this course biannually. This computer-based training takes about 3 hours to complete.
