Training Programs Practicum Training Program Center for Counseling, Health & Wellness offers a 9-month, training experience for advanced doctoral students in Counseling/Clinical Psychology programs to prepare students to work as generalists within a university counseling center. Our students typically come from Argosy University, American School of Professional Psychology in Tampa. Practicum therapists are expected to perform intake assessments, individual therapy, group therapy, and crisis intervention. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to participate in team meetings, consult with psychiatric staff, and provide outreach to the university community. Training consists of individual and group supervision, mentoring, case conference, and professional development programs. PEERS PEERS is an acronym for Providing Education, Empowerment, Resources & Support to all students at USF St. Petersburg. The purpose of PEERS is to encourage students to make responsible decisions and healthy lifestyle choices. As a Nationally Certified PEER Educator you will assist the Center for Counseling, Health & Wellness in providing workshops and training on how to make healthy and safe decisions that are common across college campuses. Topics may include: alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs; sexual health; sexual violence; mental health; nutrition; other health topics relevant to college students. Each PEER Educator will be required to participate in training that includes foundational training developed by the BACCHUS Network and specific trainings in the area of alcohol abuse prevention and suicide prevention. Students who successfully complete the training will become Certified Peer Educators, an indication that they have been trained in skills that make them a better leader, role model, activist and friend. The BACCHUS Network is a university and community based network focusing on health and safety initiatives. BACCHUS is a non-profit organization which actively promotes student based, campus and community leadership and programming on healthy lifestyle decisions. Their training consists of the following topics: strategies for change, listening skills, responding and referral skills, intervention skills, group dynamics, inclusion, programming skills, and self-care.
