USF Waterfront Regattas -

The USF Waterfront hosts several collegiate and high school regattas each year. Regattas hosted at USF are sailed in our fleet of 12 matched Vanguard Flying Juniors. All 12 of the boats were purchased at the same time, have the same sails, and are rigged and tuned equally. Races are sailed on Tampa Bay. Generally competitors can expect to see medium winds and choppy waters. The normal sea breeze direction is west/southwest. If the conditions are too extreme, the race committee may set the course in Bayboro Harbor.
Competitors in the division that are not sailing watch the racing from boats in the USF Keelboat fleet anchored near the course. Coaches and extra competitors are also invited to view the racing from the Keelboats. Lassing Park is a fine spectator viewing spot, however binoculars are recommended. It is important to note that the Race Committee will not have an "on land break". Competitors should plan to be on the water all day. Competitors should load lunch, water, gear onto the keelboats.

Directions to USF St. Petersburg

The USF Waterfront is located on the USF St. Petersburg campus. Take I-275 from the north or south into downtown St. Petersburg. Exit onto I-175 (the Tropicana Field exit). Stay on I-175 until it ends, merging onto 5th avenue south, which has a series of traffic lights. Turn RIGHT at the last light (1st street) Go three blocks and you will see that the street makes a left turn near the Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC/FMRI). Find a place to park on the street in this area. Meters are checked 7 days a week. The Waterfront is immediately west of the FWC FMRI Building. The building you are looking for is the "Haney Landing Sailing Center"

Hotels near our waterfront facility include the Hilton downtown (727-894-5000 4 blocks), Hampton Inn ( 727- 892-9900 6 blocks), Holiday Inn Heritage (727-822-48148 blocks), Hotel Ponce De Leon (727-550-9300 5 blocks). There are also numerous hotels located on St. Petersburg Beach 10-15 minutes from here. Campgrounds are located at Fort Desoto Park 727-582-2267.

Grocery Stores and Restaurants

Closest grocery store is 3 blocks from the Sailing Center (Publix at the corner of 3rd Street S and 3rd Avenue S). Main restaurant drags include 4th Street from 5th Avenue N to 62nd Avenue N, Central Avenue from 1st Street to 9th Street, Gulf Blvd in St. Pete Beach for seafood, and Baywalk entertainment complex in downtown St. Pete.
