About The Waterfront Pool -

The Waterfront swimming pool is a great place to visit if you are looking for a way get some sun, cool off, exercise, relax or just enjoy being outside. The pool is 100'x40' and heated allowing for a variety of programs throughout the year. 

Please see our WaterLife schedule for current classes and times. All classes/courses are open to USF Students, Faculty, Staff, USF Affiliates, USF Alumni Association members, and the General Public.

The pool is open 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., 7 days a week.  To access the pool, you must have a valid USF ID card or membership.

Lifeguard Training

The Lifeguard Training course is taught by an American Red Cross certified Lifeguard Instructor Trainer. This class will prepare you with skills and knowledge necessary to keep patrons of aquatic facilities safe in and around the water. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive Lifeguard Training, CPR, AED, and First Aid certification issued through the American Red Cross. The course is approximately 30 hours and participants are required to attend all classes for certification. (Please see pre-requisites for the class).

Challenge courses are also available on a year-round basis.

Lifeguard Instructor Course

The Lifeguard Instructor course is taught by an American Red Cross
certified Lifeguard Instructor Trainer. This purpose of this class is to
train instructor candidates to teach basic-level Lifeguarding, Waterfront Lifeguarding*, Waterpark Lifeguarding* and Shallow Water Attendant (all including first aid), Lifeguard Management, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne
Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission and Basic Water
Rescue courses. Instructor candidates also will become familiar with
GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow and the Water Safety presentations. The course is approximately 30 hours and participants are required to attend all classes for certification. (Please see pre-requisites for the class).

Water Fitness Workouts

USF St. Petersburg has been selected as the 2007, 2008 & 2009 Top Aquatic Program in the State of Florida by the USWFA

Want to get in shape, lose weight, or just try something new?  Come check out the new Water Fitness workouts at the pool.

All Water Fitness classes are taught by a certified United States Water Fitness Association Instructor. Each class has a specific focus, which allows you to pick and choose your own workout. So try a class or several classes! All classes will be held at the heated USF St. Petersburg Pool.

Pool Rental Information

Pool Rentals are perfect for birthday parties, celebrations, or just for a good time.

To reserve the pool, a facility reservation request must be completed and payment received by the Waterfront Office. Reservations must be placed two weeks in advance.

The rates below are based on a three-hour rental period and for groups of 25 or less. Additional charges will be applied for longer rentals and larger groups. Parties of 25 or less are able to rent the pool during routine hours of operation and will have a flat lifeguard fee of $15.00 for the three-hour rental period. For parties of 25 or more, the rental period must occur after routine hours and a $15.00 per hour per lifeguard fee applies. Every 25 people will require one lifeguard. All patrons must complete a medical form and waiver prior to using the pool.

Costs for Pool Rental (per 3 hours):

Free of charge for Student Organizations
$25.00 for USF Students
$50.00 for USF Faculty and Staff
$50.00 for Alumni Association Members
$50.00 for Affiliates and Affiliate Organizations
$50.00 for USF Departments
$50.00 for General Public with Membership
$100.00 for General Public

A $15.00 lifeguard fee applies to all pool rentals.

We are unable to issue refunds

Concerning the reservation policy, all pool rentals will be required to have every participant complete a medical form and waiver prior to the rental date. The bathing load at the pool is 114 people (i.e. the amount of patrons permitted in pool at one time).
Therefore, any groups above this amount will be required to purchase
and provide their own insurance.

Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

The Water Safety Instructor class is taught by an American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructor Trainer. This class will prepare you to teach patrons how to swim and help them be safe when they are in, on or around the water. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive WSI certification issued through the American Red Cross. The course is approximately 30 hours and participants are required to attend all sessions for certification. (Please see pre-requisites for the class).

Basic Water Rescue

The Basic Water Rescue class is taught by an American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructor. This class will provide you with the information and skills necessary to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. Participants who successfully complete the 4 hour course will receive Basic Water rescue certification through the American Red Cross. This class does NOT provide participants with all the information and skills needed to become certified as a lifeguard.

Basic Water Rescue target audiences includes: camp personnel and trip leaders, day care workers, school teachers, club and organization engaging in water activities, such as Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and individuals who work in or around the water. All classes will be held at the USF St. Petersburg Pool.

Home Pool Safety Presentations

The Home Pool Safety presentation is given by an American Red Cross certified instructor. The presentation provides pool owners with information and awareness to keep their family and guests in a safe aquatic environment. We are currently offering three separate presentations for Home Pool Safety. Each presentation is 30 minutes and will cover topics such as home pool safety checklists, reaching assists and what to do in the case of an aquatic emergency. All classes will be held at the USF St. Petersburg Waterfront facility.

Water Volleyball

We'll set up the net in the shallow end, you enjoy the sun and pool while playing volleyball. 

Open play - Wednesdays 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. 

USFSP Waterfront Camps

USFSP Waterfront Splash Camps - Get your children ready for a spring break and a summer of fun by enrolling them in the USFSP Camps! We are offering a variety of camps this year, including a new Spring break Splash Camp, Junior Lifeguarding GuardStart camp, Summer Splash Camps and Sailing Camps. Each camp will have a maximum of eight students and run from 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday unless otherwise specified; ages vary on the specific program. All camps are conducted by certified Instructors and Lifeguards. Prices vary for each camp, please see registration form for fee schedule. Payment cannot be accepted without a completed registration form with a signed medical form and waiver.

For Splash Camps Only: Optional swim lessons may be given from 8:15 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. each morning before camp begins for $30 per camp week.

GuardStart (Lifeguarding) / Sailing Camp - This 5-day program combines the American Red Cross GuardStart program with an intense learn-to-sail program. Youth ages 12 - 14 are eligible to participate. The purpose of this camp is to provide a foundation of aquatic and leadership knowledge, attitudes and skills for both future successful completion of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses and learn-to-sail programs. Upon successful completion of this program, youth will be able to participate (free-of-charge) as junior counselors for our Summer Splash Water Camps for kids. See registration form above.
